I am a huge Doctor Who fan, and I have been for a few years now. For those of you who do not really know what the show is, it is a British Science Fiction show about a time traveler who has some pretty awesome adventures. The Doctor is from a race called the time lords, and he is the only one left of his kind from Galifrey. He travels in a blue police box called the TARDIS which stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space. The Doctor doesn't die, he regenerates and changes his face into a younger looking man. That however doesn't mean that it is impossible for him to die, he can die but only if somebody kills him right in the middle of his regeneration process. The Doctor travels with a companion which is usually a women, every now and then you will see a guy pop up, but in most cases its a female companion. There has been eleven actors who have played the Doctor. The most popular one you hear of the most is Tom Baker who played the role of the fourth Doctor. He had this really awesomely long, and colorful scarf and that was his little addition to the character. Each Doctor has his own unique taste that makes that role his own, because it is basically the same person each actor brings a new spin to the seires. David Tennant who played the tenth Doctor was hugely popular, he had some very serious story lines in his reign as Doctor. You see him loose his companion Rose Tyler who became the companion with the ninth Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston. As time went on the tenth Doctor had Martha Jones, annd Donna Nobel as companions as well. Let us not forget Captain Jack Harkness played by John Barrowman, who also appeared along side the ninth Doctor, then came back around with the tenth Doctor. Doctor Who got imensly popular in the U.S when eleventh Doctor Matt Smith took over for David Tennant. There is just something about him that fans responded to in the US, and more Americans started to tune into the show. Matt Smith's adaptation of the Doctor is a little bit awkward, but still very sure of himself. He wears suspenders, and a bowtie and that is part of his unique style to the character. Bowties are indeed cool, especially now that Matt Smith looks so good in them.
The other amazing thing about this show is obviously the writing of each and every episode. Russell T. Davies had a lot of great episodes during the time of David Tennant mostly, but my favorite is Steven Moffat who is currently writing the series. I like Moffat because his stories are so complex, and the characters are all conected in so many ways. Every episode conects to another, and if you missed one episode and watched the next you were sort of lost because you didn't really know what point in the story they were at. His writing is I think what made a lot more people tune in, and just the way hin made these characters interact with one another was brilliant. Steven Moffat really is a genius in my book, he at the time of writing Doctor Who was also writing for the great show Sherlock, and for the movie Tin Tin.
Doctor Who has its serious moments, but it also has its funny moments as any show usually does. There is quite a bit of hummor as you watch throughout each season. The chemistry between the elevnth Doctor, and his companion Amy Pond is just amazing. Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have such great chemistry, they work so well off each other and it brings a certain taste to the show. However sadly to say that Amy Pond will not be around, and the Doctor will be getting another companion.
As I wrap this up I am just going to add some last minutes points. Rory who is Amy's husband is a great character who has one too many brushes with death, and he sort of became this character who you just felt sorry for a lot of the time. River Song is a HUGE part of the recent season of Doctor Who, and I won't give everything away, but she has personal ties to Rory, Amy, and especially the Doctor. You get to see a lot of cool creatures in this show the ever so popular being the Daleks whom will exterminate you on site. There are the Cyber men who will turn you into one of them, and you will feel no emotion what so ever. The weeping angels are statues that will move the second you take your eyes off of them, you can't even blink. I suggest that you watch this show, you don't actually have to watch the first episode of the first Doctor you can but you can also start at the beginnging of any Doctor's reign. If you're big into story I suggest checking out Matt Smith's first episode The Eleventh Hour that was one of the best. If you just want to get a feel for it you can watch Rose which is the first episode of the ninth Doctor reign. So fellow, or future Whovians I will be talking a lot more about Doctor Who and various other shows on my blog so check them out.
