My ship for today is Spike the sexy bleach blonde vampire, and Buffy the beautiful slayer. When I first started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer I instantly fell in love with Spike. He was gorgeous, funny, sexy, and British. The first episode I ever saw was "Only Have Eyes For You" in season two, and seeing him and hearing his voice just sucked me in. The relationship between Buffy and Spike from the beginning was to kill each other, but then Spike's views sort of shifted a bit. He thought that he was having these feelings because of this chip that was placed in his head, but he really did start to care for the slayer.
We caught our first glimpse into Spuffy in the episode "Something Blue" which was in season 4 of the series. Willow is feeling hurt so she casts a spell to have her will done, and things she says are coming true. When Willow is ranting to Xander she tells him "If Buffy cares about Spike so much, why doesn't she just marry him then?" Since the spell was to have her will done, that is exactly what happened. One minute they were fighting and arguing, the next they were in love being all cute with each other. I had liked the idea of Spuffy before that episode, but after that episode I wanted it more than ever to be cannon. Spike was the one who fell in love with Buffy and he went about it awkwardly, but he thought that he was being smooth. He even went as far as to make a Buffy Bot to use for his pleasure, which did not win him any points with the slayer. In that same Buffy bot episode, Spike takes a beating from a hell god Glory because he was protecting Dawn (Buffy's little sister.) There was a sweet thank you kiss given by Buffy to Spike, and that was just so sweet I can still remember it.
When season six came around Buffy and Spike get into a sexual relationship, but for him it meant the world. It was sort of sad really because she was really mixed up after having come back from the dead and everything, but he was invested in her. Things got a little intense when it all ended because one night Spike was really messed up in the head, and he tried to rape Buffy. It was a really intense scene, and then Spike went away after that. In season seven he comes back with a soul, and you see what happens while he is gone in the end of season six. So this is what I tell people in the debate of Spuffy vs Bangel, I tell them that Spike went to this demon and endured intense, painful tests to get his soul. He got his soul so that Buffy could see the man that he could be for her, and Angel was just cursed with it. He didn't really want to be good man in the first place, granted afterwards he did but still I love Spuffy more. Spike and Buffy got really close emotionally in season seven, and it was nice to know that she was seeing him for the man he wanted her to see. In the end when Spike was sacrificing himself in the hellmouth, she tells him that she loves him, but some of his final words to her are "No you don't, but thanks for saying it." It was one of my favorite scenes, and I loved that line because did she really love him? You don't know, so that was a good jab at the heart by Joss Whedon.
Keep a look out this Sunday because I think I will do a Buffy post for that day. Thank you for reading.
