The final season of Bones premiered last night, and it was amazing. Personally, I thought it was a strong start back, and maybe that is because I lowered my expectations. Whatever the case this episode made me love this show again. The teamwork, the love, and the twists.
Hodgins and Wendell work together to figure out a way to track Brennan when she is missing. Booth knows that Zack took her down to the basement which is where the Gormagon vault is located. Zack dismisses Brennan when she talks about Booth, and tells her that she now takes orders from him. When Booth gets down there Zack is holding a syringe of something and Brennan is telling him that he doesn't need to do this. Zack wants to inject himself with a truth serum so that Brennan will believe his innocence.
Zack has been leaving the facility without anyone knowing. Sweets had been visiting him weekly, and when Sweets was killed that took a toll on Zack. There was a scar on his head that he got from self-harm. He took Sweets' death really hard, and inflicted pain on himself. When Zack would leave the hospital he would break into the library so that he could read and use the computer. He was checking e-mails that belonged to Brennan, Angela, Hodgins, and Cam. Aubrey questioned Zack about Booth's e-mail, but Zack told him that he and Agent Booth were not friends. There was even a photo of Booth and Brennan from their wedding with Booth's head cut out. Is Zack in love with Dr. Brennan?
While going through the e-mails and everything Angela finds a dummy account. The account is for a Dr. Alexander Bancroft, the doctor that Hodgins' doctor and been talking to. Zack is the one who developed the protocol that was making Hodgins have sensation in his legs. The look that Hodgins had on his face when Angela told him that it was Zack just broke my heart. Zack was being accused of murder and yet he was doing this really incredible thing for Hodgins. Hodgins and Zack were more than friends they were family, and you could see that Hodgins was just in pain thinking of him being capable of all this.
Karen the behavioral analyst shows up again from Kansas City to help with the case. Karen thinks that the killer may suffer from multiple personality disorder. She says that Zack could have that and it been brought on by his head injury and that he may not even be aware of it. Booth wants eyes on Dr. Faulk as well because he is still a suspect. Karen says that because he has the trauma of losing his parents at age seven that he very well could have another personality. Faulk gets a restraining order against Booth after he pulled his gun on him. He calls the police to have Booth and Brennan escorted out of his office. He then tells Brennan that it was odd she didn't get that it was Zack in her dreams which lead him to believe she thinks he is innocent. He also adds that the person they are searching for needs to be in control, and would get close to them so that they could steer the investigation.
Brennan leaves the lab with Wendell to look at the basement where the killer had been working. Wendell finds a hidden door in the basement and inside the find another victim, with half their body missing. When they get the body back to the lab it shows that the victim was only a teen when he died and that he died approximately 10 to 20 years ago. Which means that if Zack was the killer it would mean he himself was a teenager at the time. While Brennan, Cam, and Wendell worked in the lab Hodgins went to visit Zack at the FBI. He was there with Karen whom Zack had met once before when she came to interview him for her dissertation. Hodgins tells him that he has feeling in his legs, and is there to thank him. Zack didn't want his thanks because there was a less than 1% chance that it would actually bring back mobility. What he wanted to give Hodgins was hope. He tells him that he wanted to give him some hope, but fears that all he brought was more pain.
Karen wants to give Zack access to the case files because she thinks it will trigger his other personality. Booth tells Aubrey to contact the field office in Kansas City to see why Karen left her other job. They haven't come up with anything on the fourth victim yet, and everyone is stressed. When Karen asks Zack about blackouts he gets a little agitated, but Brennan encourages him to answer her. He admits to having some lapses in memory due to his medication. Aubrey tells Booth that when he contacted the Kansas City field office Karen's supervisor said he legally couldn't talk about why she left.
Zack and Brennan came to a conclusion and Zack is upset, with his face in his hands. He asks Dr. Roshan to take him back to the institution but this time max security. They reviewed the evidence and they both agreed that it all led to Zack. Booth, however, has a gut feeling that Zack is innocent. By this point, I thought that Karen was the killer because she showed up out of nowhere, and is acting suspiciously. Brennan even accuses her of being the killer, but Karen says the only thing she is guilty of is having an affair with her former boss. They end up figuring out that the victim was a conjoined twin and was killed in a surgery removing him from his brother. They need to now identify who the killer is, and can do that by aging the facial reconstruction on Angela's computer. That is when they figure out it is Dr. Roshan. Brennan rushes to tell Booth, but he has just dropped off Zack and Roshan at the institution. The killer manipulated everyone and he knew Zack so well that he could easily pin it on him. Dr. Roshan gets Zack back into this room and is going to kill him too, but Zack stops him. He is so close to murdering Roshan, but couldn't do it, not even to save his own life. Zack gets stabbed in the leg and before Roshan could finish him off Booth shows up and shoots Roshan in the back.
Now it is over. They got the killer and Zack is innocent. Hodgins and Angela inform Cam that he has lost all feeling in his legs and it's not likely to return again. He tells a crying Angela that he is okay, and not in pain anymore so he will be okay. Booth and Brennan visit Zack where he tells them that he did not kill the lobbyist and is ready to return to society. Booth believes him because Zack tells him that he couldn't even kill Roshan to save himself, let alone be capable of killing someone because he was told to. Zack tells Brennan to reexamine the evidence, and Booth agrees to help Zack because he has done his time.
That episode was so good and I am so happy it had a strong comeback. This is the final season of the show, and I hope that it keeps this pace. I cannot wait for next weeks episode. Thank you for reading.
